Linus: I’ve never used Debian

Linus Torvalds was interviewed by http://www.oneopensource.it/

One of the questions:
A curiosity: which is your favourite distribution, and which one do you consider more secure?

I don’t really tend to care much, I’ve changed distributions over the years, and to me the most important thing tends to be that they are easy to install and upgrade, and allow me to do the only part I really care about - the kernel.

So the only major distribution I’ve never used has actually been Debian, exactly because that has traditionally been harder to install. Which sounds kind of strange, since Debian is also considered to be the “hard-core technical” distribution, but that’s literally exactly what I personally do not want in a distro. I’ll take the nice ones with simple installers etc, because to me, that’s the whole and only point of using a distribution in the first place.

So I’ve used SuSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu, YDL (I ran my main setup on PowerPC-based machines for a while, and YDL - Yellow Dog Linux - ended up the easiest choice). Right now, most of my machines seem to have Fedora 7 on then, but that’s only a statement of fact, not meant to be that I think it’s necessarily “better” than the other distros.

You can read the rest here http://www.oneopensource.it/interview-linus-torvalds/
Debian was my favourite distro & still is even though I'm not heavily use it now. Well, all the distros in my office are RedHat . What to do... :P

What say you MyDebian Group ?

i owe you

if you read my wife's blog, you'll notice that she just bought 2 new pairs of sport shoes. during the payment, she was short of cash & asked me to top up. sure no problem.

one the way back my wife asked me "how much do i owe you"?
this question keep me thinking, in this modern world where husband & wife are both working for living, shouldn't the expenses be shared together. we no longer live in 70's or 80's anymore and i'm sure if we ask 10 couples or even 100, i'm pretty sure all of them will said that both of them are working. so my point here whether the word "owe" is appropriate? shouldn't the question was "how much do i spent our money"?

i don't know. you decide...
anyway, my answer was "you owe me 100 bucks" hehehehehe :P

forbidden city

before we left beijing we managed to go to their forbidden city. only 5 stops away from our hotel by subway.

forbidden things if you're using the subway :P

from guomao to tian' anmen east
another forbidden thing :P or you'll cut your finger

out from the subway you reach the Tiananmen Square ala2 dataran merdeka la...

and this is the main entrance to the forbidden city

the inside

this is where you need to buy the ticket before you can enter the building & museums inside. besar giler tpt ni tak larat nak explore semua, silap lak dtg time tghari. so mana yg larat jer la kitorang singgah.

one of the museums there.
after a few hours kitorang pun cabut balik...ironicnyer aku jumpa satu jer benda forbidden kat dlm ni, dilarang tangkap gambar kat dlm museums dia :P

before reach our hotel, layan pulak mongolian fashion show ni... comei jugak amoi2 mongolian ni hehehe :P

i'm back in kl now... a few tips for those yg nak pegi beijing:
- most of the taxi drivers can't speak english, so you better ask somebody to write in chinese the destination you want to go or you'll end up somewhere else like us!
- bargain skill kena tahap tertinggi, tpt2 cam pearl market/silk street, ya siu, yue siu kat sini mcm2 ade dr clothing sampai la IT gadgets/stuff. at least bargain sampai 25-30% from the offered price!
- kat ya siu ade 2 kedai halal kat food court dia. satu lagi taj pavillion, ni mahal sket. satu lagi opposite road of the motorola & hp building, lupa la nama dia. tp taste lain macam la sket & kenkadang menu in chinese je so main tunjuk gambar jer la... or bring you own foods meggi ke :P
- site seeing places mmg byk la, tp must go great wall. 1 day tour dlm 220yuan per person including lunch & cable car nak naik atas.

overall nice & amazing place!
ok choew. sie-sie :)

next finally we arrived at the entrance of the great wall
to go up we use this what they call skywalker, but feel like riding rollercoster especially when sliding way down :) us at great wall of china. dlm pukul 11am, berkabus sket & sejuk cam kat genting. ramai giler tourist!
the bears
we left the wall after spending 2hours up there. amazing place & quite tiring especially if you explore the wall till the end!

huge lorry! what we call this?
next stop is the cloisonne factory
their yet to open disney land
we pass by the olympic village, still under construction & must be ready by end of this year!
and the last stop was Silk museum. this is how they made silk.

Mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

after a week in beijing, i only found 2 halal restaurants here. of course the taste not the same as food in kl but telan gak la... dlm menu pedas, tapi order tak pedas mana. makan meggi lagi sedap!

overall beijing is quite big & clean city & growing with everywhere here we can see new buildings under constructions!
maybe i only saw the best part of it or maybe it is because olympic games coming soon, whatever la... it is nice place anyway except food & of course language, they hardly/don't know to speak english... but luckily most of the signboards got english words & the their subway too.

i didn't bring the camera, here is the mascots of olympic taken with my L6 :)

my wife & kids will arrive here tomorrow morning. she'll brings the camera, so more photos coming soon... ohh she'll brings cili padi too..yahoooo

p/s: i still haven't found the 32GB thumb drive iskkk!!!
